An Indian student dragged a sex attacker to a local police station by his hair after he had tried to grope her. Pradnya Mandhare, twenty year old media studies student at Sathaye College, Mumbai, was traveling home when she was approached by a man on the platform at Kandivli station, north of the city. The man proceeded to grope Pradnya, in broad daylight, whilst around fifty people looked on.
“He came up and just started groping me. I tried to get away but he grabbed me. The only thing to do because nobody else was doing anything was to hit him and so I belted him with my bag. He tried to hit me back and he really stunk of alcohol, but I was determined not to let him get away with it.”
The platform where the attack took place had been heaving with commuters, but not one person stepped in to help her. So she grabbed her assailant by the hair and dragged him to the police station herself.
“I know that some women don’t like to complain to the police but I was determined to make sure he was punished. He was telling me to let go and that he would come with me voluntarily, but I didn’t trust him and continued to pull him along. I managed to hand him over to the police without getting any help from anyone,” she added.
Police confirmed they had arrested a man who is currently in custody awaiting charges.
