According to environmental researchers, up to 15 grams of cocaine flow through Italy’s Sarno River every single day. The powdered drug, along with loads of other harmful toxins, chemicals and general waste, are conspiring to make the water unsafe. Especially for fish like the European Eel.

In order to test out just how harmful – and not just because they thought it’d be funny to do it – scientists have been testing the effects in laboratories by exposing eels to coke. And now they’ve got a bunch of them hooked.
