In 2013, 21 year old Canadian student, Elisa Lam, disappeared off the face of the earth. A month later, her body was discovered, partially decomposed and floating in a water tank, on the roof of the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles, where she had been staying. Shortly after the discovery, the LAPD released the following footage from a security camera in a hotel elevator. It was this video which led to the massive public attention towards the case.
The video shows Elisa peeking around the doors of the elevator as if someone was following her. It also shows her acting in a very odd manner, almost as if she had been possessed by some sort of demon.
So who, or what, killed Elisa Lam? Well, to this day, nobody knows. Some suspect that the supernatural was involved. As well as the bizarre behavior in the video, people point to the fact that the hotel, found just off Skid Row, was home to not one, but two, serial killers, Richard Ramirez, the “Night Stalker”, and Jack Unterweger. It was also the last place where Elizabeth Short, a victim of the Black Dahlia Murders, was seen alive. There’s also the fact that a ladder, which would have been needed to dump the body in the tank, was totally absent from the scene. Others are more skeptical. They point out that Lam was suffering from Bipolar Disorder, and was on heavy medication, which describes the odd behavior found in the video.
Whatever the explanation, we hope, for the sake of Elisa’s friends and family, that this very strange case is soon solved.
