Teruel, Aragon, Spain. A 29 year-old bullfighter by the name of Victor Barrio is dead after being horrifically gored by a bull during a bullfight gone wrong. The terrible incident was witnessed by Barrio’s wife who was in the packed bullring for the fight. Not only that, but the ‘fight’ was being broadcast live on local television.
The bull, called Lorenzo, speared the matador in the side, puncturing a lung and – fatally – severing his aorta. That’s right… The bull’s horn stabbed directly into the guy’s heart. It was game over almost instantly.
He was rushed to hospital after resuscitation, but he was in cardiac arrest and died before making it to see emergency surgeons.
Barrio, who turned pro in 2012, becomes the first matador to die in over thirty years in Spain. And while it’s a tragedy, some online commentators took to social media to gloat over his death, citing how cruel bullfighting is.
Jona Weinhofen, wrote on Twitter: ‘He obviously hasn’t heard the saying, “You mess with the bull, you get the horns.” Zero sympathy, thank you Karma.’
