If you got your arm bitten off by a shark while surfing, would you ever get back in the water? How about dedicate your life to becoming a pro surfer? We’d forgive you if you answered ‘no’ to that. We don’t think we’d have the balls for it, either…
Well, it turns out you don’t need ’em. Bethany Hamilton was attacked by a tiger shark back in 2003 when she was only 13 years old. But once she recovered, she didn’t let the attack beat her. She got straight back on her surfboard and never looked back.
Now Bethany is expecting her first child with her husband Adam and even six months pregnant, she’s still out there surfing!
She doesn’t just turn up to these competitions to make up the numbers, though. Far from it. This girl wins ’em. Her last competition victory? Just last year. The Surf ‘N’ Sea Pipeline Women’s Pro.
Let’s hear from the lady herself: “My pregnancy has been pretty smooth overall. I’ve just been tired, had a few headaches and am easily emotional. I’ve kept very active, but have also taken more time to rest. It’s crazy, but I feel like I’ve done some of my best surfing prego!”
“At about five and a half months I really started to feel pregnant while surfing. I would get up a little slower and just feel a bit off from my normal self. But I’m fully enjoying the ocean.”
She’s pretty incredible, huh? She ain’t letting that damn shark stop her life. Respect.
Here’s the most recent picture of Bethany and the bump hitting the waves:
She’s is pretty incredible lady, we think. Let’s see her in action, shall we?
We think Adam’s a lucky man indeed!
