Kicked off September 2021 when TikTok user @jugg4elias posted a clip of a stolen box of disposable masks captioned 'devious lick'. 'Lick' is older slang for a successful theft; 'devious' just dialled up the smirk. Within weeks kids across the US were filming themselves with stolen soap dispensers, projectors and urinal cakes. TikTok purged the hashtag, schools lost their bathrooms, and the trend mutated into 'dastardly' and 'diabolical' licks before fizzling.
