gash
Rubbish — or, weirdly, spare and free.
Definitions
Rubbish, waste, trash. The gash bucket on a ship is where the galley scraps and refuse go. By extension, anything worthless or to be thrown out.
Spare, surplus, going free — the flip side. If kit's been written off as gash, it's up for grabs.
Adjective: poor quality, rubbish in a qualitative sense. Modern forces use.

Origin & Usage
Royal Navy slang of uncertain origin, spread to all services. 'Gash bin' for the rubbish bin is still standard on ships. The 'spare' sense likely evolved because anything thrown in the gash was up for grabs.
