Any position above the normal play space. You see them before they see you, you shoot down on them, and they have to climb to even contest. Holding high ground is half the fight in most shooters.

The terrain edge. In build games you make your own; in shooters you fight over what the map gives you. Lose it and you're shooting up into the sun all round.
