Sterile needles are inserted through the skin during a scene for the sensation, the endorphin rush, and sometimes the visual, then removed afterwards (unlike a real piercing, it's not meant to stay). It's blood-adjacent edge play, so sterile single-use needles, gloves, and sharps disposal are non-negotiable. Also called play piercing.
