British boxing legend Ricky Hatton has come out with a blistering attack on his former foe Floyd Mayweather, branding the champ ‘a d*ckhead’. The former WBA, IBF, IBO and The Ring Light Welterweight Champion, and WBA Welterweight Champion, spoke out against the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world for the way he treats his rivals and ‘disrespects’ boxing.
In an interview with the biggest tabloid newspaper in the UK, The Sun, the Manchester man Hatton said: “Floyd has his way and I have mine, but there’s a line between selling tickets and disrespecting the sport. What’s the point of being the world’s best fighter if everyone thinks you’re a d*ckhead?”
And he has a good point! Mayweather ain’t exactly the most popular boxer, is he?
Hatton also told of a funny/weirdly dangerous story of just how competitive Mayweather is. Both Hatton and Mayweather were on their way to the US in separate private jets once. And this craziness happened:
“A few minutes into the the journey, we’re chatting away, having a drink when the pilot gestures to me to come forward. ‘Hey Ricky, listen to this idiot.’
He turns on the speaker and over the radio I hear Floyd arguing with the pilot of his plane behind: ‘I’m not letting that motherf***** get there before me, f***ing overtake them!’
‘Overtake that motherf***** – I’m the champ. I’ve got to get to New York first. I’ll pay whatever you want.'”
Ding ding! Seconds out!
Hatton may have lost to Mayweather when they fought, but he was no slouch – he was a great boxer. Check out Ricky Hatton’s greatest hits right here:
